In the fourth quarter of 2023, Australia's music and podcast app landscape saw varying trends across key players. Sensor Tower provides a detailed glimpse into how these apps fared in terms of downloads, revenue, and user engagement.
Spotify - Music and Podcasts, a leading name in the industry, ended the year on a high note with a significant jump to 70K downloads in the last week of December from around 33K at the start of October. The app also displayed a steady revenue increase, peaking at $186K in late November. Weekly active users fluctuated mildly around 6M throughout the quarter.
Australian-owned LiSTNR maintained consistent download numbers around 12K to 14K, with a notable increase to around 14K in the last week of the year. As revenue data was not available, we observed weekly active users with a slight upward trend, ending the quarter with just under 38K users.
Shazam: Find Music & Concerts, another major player, experienced a steady download rate with a peak of around 14K in late December. The app's revenue showed an impressive leap in December, reaching $56 in the final week. Weekly active users saw a positive climb, ending at 1.28M.
YouTube Music from Google LLC witnessed downloads hovering around 10K, with a spike to over 14K in the year's final week. Revenue trends were relatively stable with a slight uptick in late November to $120K. The app's weekly active users showed a significant increase, peaking at 1.75M in early December.
Lastly, SoundCloud: Discover New Music saw downloads range between 9K and 10K, with a noticeable rise to 10K in mid-December. Revenue exhibited a positive trend, with a peak of around $81K in late November. The app's active user base experienced a slight decline, ending the quarter with 825K active users.
