As the year 2023 came to a close, the shopping app landscape in Europe reflected interesting user engagement trends. Data provided by Sensor Tower offers a glimpse into the performance of the top five shopping applications on the unified platform.
Temu: Shop Like a Billionaire witnessed a fluctuating trend in downloads, starting strong at 2.7M in the last week of September and peaking at over 3.1M in late November, before dipping to around 2.2M in mid-December and recovering to approximately 2.8M by the end of the quarter. Weekly active users showed a steady increase from 15.5M to over 21.6M, indicating a growing user base.
SHEIN - Shopping Online, another key player, saw its downloads decrease from 1.1M to 747K over the quarter, while the weekly active users count also experienced a downward trend, starting at around 22.8M and ending the quarter at nearly 19.7M.
Vinted: Sell vintage clothes had its downloads begin at 719K and gradually decrease to 498K by the year's end. The weekly active users remained relatively stable, starting at 12.8M and experiencing a slight decline to 12.1M.
Lidl Plus showed an interesting pattern, with downloads spiking at 828K in early December before falling to 545K. The weekly active user base for Lidl Plus grew from 10.7M to over 12.1M by early December, then saw a decrease to just under 10M by the quarter's end.
Amazon, with its established presence, maintained a consistent performance in revenue, ranging from a modest $2.5K to $3K on a weekly basis. Downloads for Amazon varied, with a high of 699K in late November and a year-end peak of 603K. The weekly active users showcased a peak of over 33.2M around late November, closing the quarter with a slight drop to 30.5M.
