As the year winds down, the performance of tax preparation and planning applications provides interesting insights into user engagement and preferences. Data from Sensor Tower offers a glimpse into the trends for the top 5 tax apps in the United States during the fourth quarter of 2023.

Intuit Inc. saw its flagship app, TurboTax: File Your Tax Return, maintain a steady revenue with peaks towards the end of October and December, reaching up to $44M. Downloads showed a sharp increase in December, hitting nearly 40K, while weekly active users peaked at over 530K in early December before a slight dip towards the end of the month.

MyBlock, from HRB Tax Group, Inc., despite a revenue of $0, experienced a significant surge in downloads at the end of October, with over 41K downloads. Weekly active users for MyBlock also saw a high in the same period, reaching over 90K, and then gradually tapering off to just over 50K by the year's end.

Downloads and weekly active users for the app were relatively low compared to others in the category, with active users just over 1.2K by the end of December.
