Brazil's entertainment landscape continues to evolve with the dynamic performance of Film & Television apps on the Android platform. In the first quarter of 2024, notable shifts in downloads, revenue, and user engagement have been observed. Sensor Tower's data offers insights into these trends, highlighting the top contenders in the region's digital entertainment space.
Max: Stream HBO, TV, & Movies made quite the entrance with its release in February 2024. Launching with a bang, downloads soared to 1.6M in its first week, eventually reaching over 1.7M before settling at 472K. Weekly active users mirrored this explosive start, rapidly climbing to 3M users. Revenue trends also reflected strong performance, escalating from a modest $3.5K to $178K by the end of March.
Globoplay: Futebol Brasileiro!, a staple in Brazilian digital entertainment, showed consistent revenue generation, with weekly figures ranging from $271K to $426K. Downloads peaked at 484K in early January, then gradually decreased to 235K by late March. The app's weekly active users presented a resilient picture, hitting a high of 6.6M and concluding the quarter with 6.1M.
Despite not generating revenue in this period, Netflix maintained a strong user base with over 19M weekly active users at the start of the year, dipping slightly to 19.2M by quarter's end. Downloads showed a slight decline, from 262K to 220K over the quarter.
Pluto TV: Watch Movies & TV saw its downloads decrease from 216K to 159K, while weekly active users began at 1.1M and experienced a dip to 939K in the final week of March, indicating a gradual decrease in engagement over the quarter.
Star+ displayed a modest yet steady revenue stream, from $86K to $89K over the quarter. Downloads peaked at 179K in late March, recovering from a low of 122K in early February. Weekly active users showed an upward trend, from 3M to over 3.1M, ending the quarter on a positive note.
