The first quarter of 2024 has been an interesting period for music and podcasts applications on the Android platform in the United Kingdom. Sensor Tower provides a detailed look at how the top five apps have performed in terms of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users.
Spotify: Music and Podcasts has shown an upward trend in revenue, starting the quarter with approximately $219K and ending with an impressive $294K. Downloads fluctuated, peaking at around 20K in mid-February, while weekly active users saw a steady increase from 6.5M to 6.6M.
BBC Sounds: Radio & Podcasts maintained a consistent level of weekly active users, starting at around 244K and peaking at 264K before settling at 244K again. They saw no revenue, but downloads reached their highest at 17K in late January.
Shazam: Find Music & Concerts also generated no revenue, but it's worth noting its active user base hovered between 331K and 356K throughout the quarter. Downloads were highest in late January at over 13K.
Amazon Music: Songs & Podcasts experienced a notable increase in revenue, from $27K to $42K, while weekly active users remained relatively stable, showing a slight uptick from 427K to 408K. Downloads saw a decrease, starting at 16K and ending the quarter at 10K.
Lastly, SoundCloud: Play Music & Songs saw its revenue grow from $22K to $29K. The app's weekly active users showed an overall increase, starting at 232K and peaking at 264K in late February. Downloads reached their highest at 12K in mid-February.
