In Q2 2024, the top communication apps on Android in Nigeria exhibited diverse trends in downloads, revenue, and active users. Here's a detailed look at the performance of the leading five apps.
Telegram showed notable growth in both downloads and active users. Weekly downloads peaked at approximately 525K in late May, up from around 206K at the start of April. Active users also saw a steady rise, reaching about 6.8M by the end of June. Revenue fluctuated, peaking at around $5K in early April and maintaining a range between $2K and $4K for most of the quarter.
WhatsApp Messenger maintained its dominance with high active user numbers, starting at about 47.9M and reaching approximately 49.5M by the end of June. Downloads varied significantly, with a high of around 467K in mid-April and a low of about 164K in mid-May.
WhatsApp Business experienced fluctuating download numbers, peaking at around 356K in mid-April and dropping to approximately 136K by mid-May. Active users remained relatively stable, hovering around 2.7M throughout the quarter.
Messenger saw a decline in weekly downloads from around 445K at the beginning of April to about 119K by the end of June. Despite this, active users showed a slight increase, starting at approximately 10.5M and ending the quarter at around 10.8M.
Truecaller: AI Call Blocker had a mixed quarter with downloads peaking at around 249K in early April and dipping to approximately 68K by mid-May. Active users displayed consistent growth, reaching about 6.3M by the end of June. Revenue remained relatively stable, fluctuating between $600 and $800 weekly.
