In the second quarter of 2024, the sandbox gaming category experienced interesting shifts in user engagement and revenue across unified platforms. Sensor Tower provides a closer look at the top 5 sandbox games that have been capturing the imagination of players worldwide.
Roblox maintained its strong presence with weekly revenue figures fluctuating between $122K and $148K. Downloads showed a slight downward trend from 5K to 4K, while weekly active users saw a positive climb from 293K to an impressive 318K by the end of the quarter.
Minecraft by Mojang displayed a more modest performance in comparison. Revenue hovered around the $5K to $9K mark, with downloads remaining fairly consistent at around 230 per week. Weekly active users saw a fluctuation, initially dropping from 54K to 46K, then rising back up to nearly 60K.
The Sims™ FreePlay from Electronic Arts showed revenue ranging from $3.5K to $7.4K weekly. Downloads peaked at 1K in mid-April before settling around the mid-500s. Active users started at 4.5K, dipped slightly, and then evened out to around 4.1K by the end of June.
Lockwood Publishing's Avakin Life: 3D Avatar Creator saw revenues that started at nearly $2K and peaked at $2.7K in late April. Downloads showed a decline from 143 to 89, and active users decreased from 901 to 751 throughout the quarter.
Lastly, IMVU: 3D Avatar Creator & Chat experienced revenue that fluctuated between $652 and $1.5K. Downloads had minor variations, mostly hovering around the mid-70s. Weekly active users had a slight downward trend, starting at 1.8K and finishing at 1.6K.
