The second quarter of 2024 saw significant activity in the African shopping app market. Here’s a breakdown of the performance of the top five shopping apps: Temu: Shop Like a Billionaire, Alibaba.com, SHEIN - Shopping Online, Amazon Shopping, and Jumia Online Shopping.
Temu: Shop Like a Billionaire experienced notable fluctuations in weekly downloads, peaking at approximately 581K in late April before declining to around 224K by the end of June. Active users increased steadily, reaching over 1.2M by the end of June from 888K at the beginning of April.
Alibaba.com maintained a relatively stable download rate, with a slight increase towards the end of the quarter, peaking at about 252K in the week of June 17. Active users saw a gradual increase, ending the quarter with around 4.17M, up from 4.02M at the start of April.
SHEIN - Shopping Online showed a mixed trend in downloads, starting strong with around 245K in early April but ending the quarter at approximately 163K. Active users fluctuated, peaking at 2.28M in late April and closing the quarter with about 2.17M.
Amazon Shopping exhibited a steady increase in weekly downloads, peaking at around 229K in early May before settling at about 171K by late June. Weekly revenue saw an upward trend, reaching approximately $2.6K in the final week of June. Active users showed a slight increase, ending the quarter with around 2.75M.
Jumia Online Shopping experienced a gradual increase in downloads, peaking at around 164K in mid-June. Active users also followed an upward trend, growing from 1.75M at the beginning of April to about 1.88M by the end of June.
