In the second quarter of 2024, the tower defense genre continues to engage mobile gamers worldwide. Sensor Tower provides a detailed look at the performance of the top five tower defense games on the unified platform, combining data from both iOS and Android.
ELECTRONIC ARTS' classic Plants vs. Zombies™ experienced a peak in downloads mid-April with over 37K new players, followed by a gradual decline to around 10K by the end of June. Revenue showed a decreasing trend from $130K in the first week of April to $65K in the last week of June. Weekly active users spiked to approximately 132K in mid-April but saw a drop, ending the quarter with around 81K active users.
The sequel, Plants vs Zombies™ 2, also saw its highest downloads in mid-April at around 25K, tapering off to nearly 6K by late June. Revenue varied, with a notable peak of $588K in early April, and ended the quarter with a steady $298K. Active users reached a high of 139K in the same period but decreased to just under 98K by the quarter's end.
Space Survivor, published by iStar Technology Investment Co Ltd, maintained a strong user base with weekly active users growing from 189K to over 200K. Although the game didn't generate revenue, it consistently attracted new players, with downloads fluctuating slightly throughout the quarter, ending at around 7K.
Vietnam-based Rocket Succeed Together's Stick Hero: Tower Defense showed no revenue but kept a steady influx of new gamers. Downloads saw a small peak in early June with over 3K, and weekly active users experienced a slight increase from 9K in April to nearly 10K in June.
Lastly, MY.GAMES B.V.'s Rush Royale: Tower Defense TD presented a mixed revenue trend, starting at $214K and reaching a high of $355K in late April, before closing the quarter at $173K. The game's downloads saw a sharp decrease from 6K in early April to less than 1K by late June, while active users hovered around the mid-20K range throughout the quarter.
