In the third quarter of 2024, the leading carpooling and ridesharing apps in the United States demonstrated varied performance in terms of downloads and active user engagement, as revealed by Sensor Tower data.
Uber - Request a ride maintained a strong presence with weekly downloads fluctuating around 330K to 370K. The app saw its active user base grow from 12.1M at the start of July to a peak of 12.5M by mid-September, indicating consistent user engagement.
Similarly, Lyft experienced a stable download pattern, averaging between 250K and 270K weekly. Active users increased from 5.4M in early July to 5.8M by late September, reflecting a growing user base throughout the quarter.
For Uber - Driver: Drive & Deliver, downloads started strong with over 145K in early July, peaking at 161K mid-July. However, weekly active users showed a decline from 2.5M to approximately 2.1M by the end of September, suggesting a decrease in driver engagement.
Lyft Driver maintained consistent download numbers around 49K to 52K weekly, with active users showing a slight increase from 632K to 646K by the quarter's end, indicating steady driver activity on the platform.
Lastly, Bolt: Request a Ride saw its downloads gradually decline from 52K to 42K over the quarter. Active users remained relatively stable, starting at 63K and ending just above 58K, showcasing a slight dip in user engagement.
