In the third quarter of 2024, the dating app landscape in South Africa saw notable trends across the top five applications, according to data from Sensor Tower. Each app showcased unique patterns in downloads, revenue, and active user engagement.
Tinder Dating App: Chat & Date maintained a robust presence, with weekly revenue peaking at approximately $43.7K in late September. Downloads fluctuated, with a high of around 21.6K in mid-September, while weekly active users saw a gradual decline from around 126K to 105K over the quarter.
Dating and Chat - iHappy experienced variable revenue, reaching a peak of $131 in mid-September. It started the quarter with around 16.9K downloads, dropping to 11.3K by the end. Active users peaked at approximately 67.1K in early September, concluding the quarter at around 57.1K.
Badoo Dating App: Meet & Date showed stable revenue trends, with a peak of $12.1K in late August. Weekly downloads began at around 11.4K and slightly decreased to 9.3K by the quarter's end. Active users remained relatively consistent, hovering around 300K throughout the quarter.
OmeTV – Video Chat Alternative showed modest revenue fluctuations, with a peak of $1.6K in late September. Downloads varied, starting at 14K and ending at 8.3K. The app's active users increased from 42.9K to a peak of 46K before settling at 40.4K by the end of the quarter.
Pickup Lines - Flirt Messages recorded sporadic revenue, peaking at $124 in late August. Downloads began at 12.7K and decreased to 7.9K by the quarter's close. Active users increased from 65K to a high of 76.5K in early September before dropping to 63.6K by the end of the period.
