In the third quarter of 2024, the maps and navigation app landscape in the United Arab Emirates saw notable trends across the top five applications, as revealed by Sensor Tower data.
Careem – rides, food & more experienced a consistent upswing in weekly downloads, starting from around 18.8K in early July and reaching approximately 19.7K by the end of September. The app's active user base showed a gradual increase from 83.3K to 81.8K over the same period.
Waze Navigation & Live Traffic maintained steady growth in downloads, climbing from about 12.1K in early July to 15.2K by the end of September. Its active user numbers displayed a slight fluctuation, peaking at around 335.5K in late August before settling at 311.9K by the end of the quarter.
For 2GIS: Offline map & navigation, the quarter presented an increase in downloads, with a notable rise to 11.3K in mid-August, before stabilizing around 7K in late September. Active users showed a gradual upward trend, reaching 49.6K by the end of September.
Yango Maps saw a sharp increase in downloads in early September, peaking at 8.2K, but faced a decline towards the end of the month, ending at 2.4K. The app's active users followed a similar pattern, peaking at 43.5K in early September and closing the quarter at 30.9K.
Lastly, Uber - Request a ride showed stable download numbers, fluctuating slightly around 9K throughout the quarter. Its active user base remained robust, with a slight increase from 279.9K to 278.8K by the end of September.
