In the third quarter of 2024, the performance of leading News and Magazines apps in New Zealand presented a variety of trends across downloads, revenue, and active users. According to data from Sensor Tower, the following insights highlight the quarterly performance of these top apps.
NZ Herald News, published by NZME, showcased a relatively stable revenue stream, with a peak of approximately $5.6K in late August. Weekly downloads started at around 406 and saw a dip to 152 in early September, before climbing back to 279 by the end of the quarter.
The Guardian - News & Sport experienced a notable surge in weekly revenue, reaching around $8.8K in late July. Downloads remained fairly consistent, averaging around 150 to 194 weekly. Active users fluctuated slightly but maintained a strong presence, peaking at 8.1K in mid-August.
BusinessDesk, also under NZME Publishing Ltd, saw a significant rise in weekly revenue, particularly in mid-August, peaking at $1.5K. Downloads were more modest, ranging from 58 to 152 throughout the quarter.
The New York Times: Live News maintained a steady revenue flow, with a peak of $1.9K in late September. Weekly downloads were consistent, hovering between 217 and 277. Active users remained robust, peaking at 5K in late July.
Finally, Medium showed a steady increase in weekly revenue, reaching approximately $479 by the end of September. Downloads varied slightly, with a peak of 269 in mid-August. Active users saw a gradual increase, peaking at 1.4K in late August.
