In the third quarter of 2024, the performance of the top five news applications on a unified platform in Europe presented varied trends across downloads, revenue, and active users. According to Sensor Tower data, these insights provide a snapshot of how these apps are being utilized across the continent.
X from X Corp. maintained a strong presence in Europe with a consistent weekly revenue that peaked at approximately $385K by the end of September. The app's downloads saw a high of around 510K in early August, and its active users, although experiencing a slight decline towards the end of the quarter, remained robust at over 42M.
Reddit showed a steady increase in weekly active users, reaching about 13.9M at the end of the quarter. The app's weekly downloads peaked at roughly 379K in late July, while revenue saw a gradual rise, concluding the quarter at around $24K.
Substack demonstrated growth in both downloads and active users. Weekly downloads increased to about 41K by the end of September, and active users rose to approximately 476K. Revenue also showed a positive trend, peaking at around $6K in the final week of the quarter.
Google News, despite not generating revenue, maintained a stable user base with weekly active users fluctuating around 4.8M. Downloads remained consistent, with a peak of approximately 40K in mid-July.
Nextdoor: Neighborhood Network experienced a decline in active users, ending the quarter with around 743K. However, the app saw a surge in downloads in early September, reaching approximately 48K.
