In the third quarter of 2024, the top five news applications in New Zealand displayed varied performance trends in terms of downloads, revenue, and active users. This analysis, based on data from Sensor Tower, provides insights into these metrics across a unified platform.
Reddit exhibited a fluctuating revenue pattern with a notable peak of approximately $206 in the last week of September. Weekly downloads reached their highest at about 5.8K at the end of July, while active users generally hovered around 220K throughout the quarter.
X saw its weekly revenue peak at roughly $4.7K in mid-August. Downloads were highest in early July with approximately 3.6K, and active users remained robust, averaging around 400K over the quarter.
NZ Herald News maintained a strong weekly revenue, peaking at about $22K in late September. Downloads fluctuated slightly, with a low of around 371 in early September and climbing back to approximately 577 by the end of the month. Active users remained relatively stable, averaging near 5K.
Stuff.co.nz did not generate any revenue during the quarter. Downloads showed a declining trend from the start of July, with a slight recovery to around 625 by the end of September. Active users decreased from approximately 34K at the start of the quarter to about 28K by the end.
Substack experienced minimal revenue, peaking at $26 in late July. Downloads were relatively stable, reaching around 862 in the final week of September. Active users increased steadily, starting from 10.4K in early July and rising to about 12.2K by the end of the quarter.
