In the third quarter of 2024, the top shopping applications in South Africa on a unified platform demonstrated varied performance trends. According to Sensor Tower data, Temu: Shop Like a Billionaire showed notable fluctuations in weekly downloads, initially peaking at around 550K in early July, dipping mid-quarter, and recovering to approximately 500K by the end of September. The app's weekly active users rose significantly from 869K to nearly 1.8M, illustrating a strong engagement increase throughout the period.
SHEIN-Shopping Online maintained a consistent upward trend in downloads, starting at 127K and reaching 155K by September's end. Its active user base also grew, stabilizing around 1.2M, indicating steady user retention.
Amazon Shopping experienced a gradual increase in weekly downloads, climbing from 58K to over 101K in late September. Active users increased from 591K to nearly 880K, while weekly revenue remained consistent at $32.
For Takealot – Online Shopping App, downloads fluctuated, starting at 58K, dipping in mid-quarter, and ending at 59K. Active users showed minor variations, maintaining around 545K by the quarter's close.
Lastly, bash saw a modest increase in downloads from 39K to approximately 63K. Its active user count rose from 410K to 579K, suggesting growing popularity.
