In the third quarter of 2024, the top social apps on a unified platform in Africa showcased a variety of trends in downloads, revenue, and active users, according to data from Sensor Tower.
TikTok Lite - Save Data exhibited strong performance with weekly downloads peaking at around 2.1M in early August, while revenue surged to nearly $300K in the first week of September. The app maintained a robust user base, with weekly active users climbing steadily to over 51.6M by the end of the quarter.
Facebook Lite from Meta Platforms saw a gradual increase in weekly revenue, reaching approximately $28K at the quarter's close. Downloads showed a fluctuating trend, peaking at about 1.9M in early August, while the app's active users remained consistently high, ending the quarter with more than 168.5M.
Instagram experienced a steady rise in weekly revenue, culminating at about $34K in late September. Downloads fluctuated, with a peak of 1.3M in early August, and its active user base slightly increased, reaching over 46M by the end of September.
Threads, also from Instagram, saw a consistent increase in weekly downloads, peaking at approximately 430K in the last week of September. Its active user count grew steadily, ending the quarter with over 5.5M active users.
Finally, X from X Corp. recorded a revenue high of around $25K in the last week of September. Downloads were relatively stable, with a slight increase to about 235K at the quarter's end, while active users experienced a slight decline, closing the quarter at approximately 14.2M.
