In the fourth quarter of 2024, the top five news applications in the United States displayed varied performance trends across downloads, revenue, and active users. Based on data from Sensor Tower, here's a closer look at each app's performance.
X from X Corp. saw a notable increase in weekly revenue, reaching approximately $4.4M in late November. Downloads peaked at around 459K in early November, while active users fluctuated, peaking at 65.4M in the same period.
Reddit experienced steady weekly revenue, ending the quarter at about $53.3K. Downloads showed some variation, with a high of 326K in early October. Active users were relatively stable, with a slight increase to 28.7M by the end of December.
NewsBreak: Local News & Alerts showed a gradual increase in downloads, reaching 275K in the last week of December. Active users also grew, peaking at 12M in mid-December.
Nextdoor: Neighborhood Network displayed a consistent download pattern, with numbers reaching 160K in late October. Active users maintained a steady presence, concluding the quarter at 10M.
Lastly, Substack saw its weekly revenue peak at $17K by the end of December. Downloads reached 175K in early November, and active users showed an upward trend, peaking at 4.1M in early November.
