During the second quarter of 2025, the top five news applications on the iOS platform in the United States exhibited varied performance trends in terms of downloads, revenue, and active users. Here's a closer look at their metrics, based on data from Sensor Tower.
X from X Corp. showed a dynamic quarter with weekly downloads peaking at around 238K in mid-June. Revenue reached a high of approximately $1.8M in early April, while active users fluctuated slightly, maintaining over 36M throughout the quarter.
Reddit experienced stable performance with weekly downloads initially spiking to 244K in early April, then settling around 111K by the end of June. Revenue remained relatively steady, closing the quarter at about $43K, and active users hovered around 19M.
NewsBreak: Local News & Alerts observed a progressive increase in downloads, reaching over 108K by late June. Despite no revenue figures being reported, active users saw a decline from 5.2M to approximately 4.5M.
Substack had a notable rise in active users, peaking at around 4.2M in June. Weekly downloads showed a recovery from a dip in May, ending the quarter at 75K, while revenue remained consistent, averaging around $15K weekly.
Nextdoor: Neighborhood Network displayed steady download numbers, peaking at 76K in April. Although revenue data was not available, active users increased slightly, closing the quarter with around 7.6M.
