2026 State of Mobile is Live!

In the second quarter of 2025, South Africa's food delivery app market showcased varied performance trends across the top five applications. This analysis is based on data from Sensor Tower, providing insights into weekly downloads and active users.
Uber Eats: Food & Groceries maintained a consistent presence in the market. Weekly downloads fluctuated, peaking at approximately 40.5K at the beginning of April and closing the quarter with around 33K. Active users ranged from 1.3M to 1.5M, with a notable increase in late June.
Mr D - Groceries & Takeaway showed a steady trend in downloads, starting at 37.1K and finishing with 31.8K. The app's active user base remained robust, hovering between 1.8M and 2.2M throughout the quarter.
OneCart: Shopping On Demand experienced a decline in downloads from 9K to just over 800 by the end of June. Active users also saw a decrease, starting at 47K and dropping to 28.4K.
Astron Energy recorded moderate download numbers, with a peak of nearly 5K in late May. However, no active user data was available.
Refreshi had a significant spike in downloads mid-quarter, reaching 6.1K in June, despite starting at 8.3K in early April.
