In the second quarter of 2025, the top five shopping applications in South Africa exhibited varied performance trends on a unified platform, combining data from both iOS and Android. Here's a closer look at each app's performance based on insights from Sensor Tower.
Temu: Shop Like a Billionaire saw fluctuating weekly download numbers, peaking at about 603K in mid-May. Its weekly active users showed a steady increase, reaching over 8.3M by the end of June.
SHEIN - Shopping Online experienced a consistent trend in weekly downloads, with a notable rise to approximately 106K in the last week of June. Active user numbers also grew, culminating in over 10.3M users by the quarter's end.
DHgate-Online Wholesale Stores had a significant spike in downloads in early April, reaching 593K, but saw a decline thereafter. Active users mirrored this trend, peaking at 548K before decreasing steadily.
Takealot - Mobile Shopping App maintained a stable download rate, with numbers hovering around 30K to 50K throughout the quarter. Active users remained consistent, with slight fluctuations, ending the quarter at around 6.6M.
Pick n Pay asap + SmartShopper showed a gradual increase in downloads, closing the quarter at just over 40K. Active user numbers grew notably, reaching approximately 224K by the end of June.
