The second quarter of 2025 saw notable trends in the performance of the top sports apps in Australia, as captured by Sensor Tower data. Here's a closer look at the metrics for some of the leading apps.
Kayo Sports from Hubbl Pty Ltd experienced fluctuations in its weekly revenue, peaking at approximately $1.1M in mid-June, before closing the quarter at around $712K. Weekly downloads started strong at 39.9K but gradually decreased, ending at about 25.5K. The app maintained a robust user base, with weekly active users peaking in early April at 1.25M before settling at around 1.02M.
Play AFL, published by PlayHQ, showed a steady decline in downloads, starting the quarter with 21.9K and dropping to 5K by the end of June. However, its active user base grew significantly, reaching nearly 150K by the end of the quarter.
Sportsbet - Online Betting App maintained a consistent download rate, with a notable spike to 19.3K in late May. Active users fluctuated but remained above 700K throughout the quarter, peaking at 762K in late June.
The AFL Live Official App from Telstra Limited saw modest revenue, with weekly figures hovering around $20. Downloads were relatively stable, starting at 9K and ending at 5.5K. Active users remained strong, averaging around 850K weekly.
Finally, the NRL Official App, also by Telstra Limited, had similar revenue patterns to the AFL app. Despite a decline in downloads, from 6.3K to 3.4K, weekly active users showed resilience, reaching over 320K by the end of June.
