State of AI Apps Report 2025 is Live!
As the year 2020 came to a close, Android users in the United States navigated their world with a variety of mapping solutions. Sensor Tower provides insights into how the top navigation apps performed during the fourth quarter of the year.
Waze Navigation & Live Traffic maintained a consistent download pattern, with figures hovering around the 60K mark weekly, peaking at 73K in the week of December 21. The app's weekly active users showed a slight decline from 1.7M at the start of the quarter to approximately 1.4M by the end.
Google Earth saw its downloads fluctuate, starting the quarter with around 53K downloads and dipping to 44K towards the end of December. Active users for Google Earth remained relatively stable, with a slight increase from 364K to 397K weekly active users in the final weeks.
For GPS, Maps, Voice Navigation, revenue showed an upward trend in November, peaking at $930, before dropping to $376 by the year's end. The app's downloads saw a peak of 45K in mid-December, while active users saw a significant rise to 184K before settling at 170K.
Google Maps Go downloads and active users saw slight dips throughout the quarter. Downloads ranged from 19K to 15K, and active users started at 61K and ended at 60K, showing minimal change.
Lastly, Navigation for Google Maps Go, another lightweight solution from Google, had its downloads decrease from 17K to 11K by the quarter's end. Weekly active users also saw a decrease, starting at 71K and ending at 58K.
