As the year 2020 came to a close, the carpooling and ridesharing sector in the United Kingdom saw varied performances across popular platforms. Sensor Tower provides a detailed look at these trends, showcasing how the top five apps fared in terms of downloads and weekly active users.
Uber - Request a ride maintained its position with consistent downloads throughout the quarter, starting at 47K and peaking at 49K in late October before a decline to 35K by year-end. Weekly active users saw a significant rise from 1.17M to over 1.23M in October, followed by fluctuations and a dip to 949K in the final week of December.
Bolt: Request a Ride observed a gradual decrease in downloads from 34K to 15K by the end of Q4. Weekly active users remained relatively stable, hovering around 216K to 222K in October, with a slight decrease to 199K in the final week.
The Uber - Driver: Drive & Deliver app saw downloads ranging from 13K to 14K, with active users peaking at 151K mid-quarter before stabilizing around 130K in December.
Ola Cabs experienced a decrease in downloads, starting at 16K and ending the quarter at 8K. The app's weekly active users started at 240K, witnessed a slight increase to 239K in late October, and eventually settled at 224K by the end of December.
Lastly, Kapten showed the smallest numbers among the top apps, with downloads starting at 2.7K and dropping to 1.5K in early December before a steep decline to just 45 in mid-December. Weekly active users for Kapten saw a gradual decrease from 16K to 10.6K over the same period.
