As the year 2020 came to a close, the delivered meal kits and specialty foods sector saw varied performances across key players in the European market. Data sourced from Sensor Tower provides a glimpse into the trends for the top applications in this category during the fourth quarter.
Vivino: Buy the Right Wine experienced a surge in downloads, starting at around 61K in the last week of September and culminating in a peak of approximately 172K in the week leading up to Christmas. Weekly active users followed a similar upward trend, beginning at around 754K and reaching over 1.2M by the third week of December.
HelloFresh: Meal Kit Delivery, despite not generating revenue during this period, saw a consistent number of weekly active users, maintaining figures around the mid-500Ks, with a notable increase to 586K in the final week of the year. Download figures, however, showed a decrease from 47K at the end of September to a low of around 19K in the third week of December, before rebounding to 41K in the last week.
Gousto downloads trended downwards from 6K at the start of the quarter to a trough of 2K in early December, before rebounding to 8K in the final week. Weekly active users showed a dip towards the end of November but recovered to approximately 35K by the end of December.
For Quitoque, le panier à cuisiner, the download trend was relatively flat, with numbers hovering around 2-3K for most of the quarter, and ending slightly higher at around 1.8K in the last week. Unfortunately, weekly active user data was not available for this app.
Lastly, Marley Spoon observed a modest fluctuation in downloads, starting at 1.6K and experiencing a high of 2.2K in early November. Weekly active users saw a slight increase from 4.6K at the beginning of the quarter to 5.1K by the year's end.
