As the beauty industry continues to integrate digital solutions, we've monitored the performance of the leading beauty retail applications on the Android platform in the United States during the first quarter of 2021. The data, sourced from Sensor Tower, offers a glimpse into user engagement and app popularity.

Ulta Beauty: Makeup & Skincare saw a fluctuating trend in downloads, starting the quarter with approximately 22K downloads in the last week of December 2020 and experiencing a dip to nearly 10K downloads in the third week of February 2021. However, it rebounded to over 20K by mid-March. Weekly active users (WAUs) followed a similar pattern, with a peak of 170K in late December and a trough of 148K in late February, before recovering to approximately 175K by the end of March.

Sephora: Buy Makeup & Skincare maintained a relatively steady download count, starting at around 7.8K and ending the quarter with over 7.2K. The app's WAUs showed a slight decline from 148K to 139K over the three months.

SALLY BEAUTY exhibited a steady increase in downloads from 4K at the beginning of the quarter to a high of 6.5K in early March, before dropping to 4.7K by the quarter's end. WAUs for SALLY BEAUTY saw incremental growth throughout the quarter, peaking at over 10K in early March.

IPSY: Personalized Beauty had a challenging quarter, with downloads dipping from 7.7K to 5.5K in January, then slightly recovering to 5.5K by March's end. The WAUs for IPSY started at 125K, fell to under 100K in late February, and ended the quarter at around 105K.

Scentbird Monthly Perfume Box showed a consistent download pattern, hovering around 2.3K to 2.9K throughout the quarter. The WAUs saw a gradual decline from 9.6K in late December to just under 8K by the end of March.
