In the first quarter of 2021, Europe's carpooling and ridesharing app landscape demonstrated varied user engagement and download trends. Data provided by Sensor Tower offers insights into how these apps performed.
Uber - Request a ride saw a fluctuating download pattern starting at 500K in the last week of December and ending the quarter with 328K downloads. Weekly active users (WAUs) also saw a decline from 9.6M to 9.3M, but with some peaks in between.
Yandex Go — taxi and delivery experienced a decrease in downloads, from 349K to 220K over the quarter. WAUs showed resilience, starting at 6M and closing slightly lower at 5.9M, despite some ups and downs throughout the period.
Bolt: Request a Ride maintained a steady trend in downloads, beginning at 186K and ending on a high note with 162K. WAUs remained relatively stable, starting at 1.3M and concluding the quarter at 1.4M.
BlaBlaCar: Carpooling and Bus downloads began at 157K, dipped to 109K in mid-January, and saw a gradual increase to 126K by the end of March. The WAUs had a low of 1M and recovered to 1.2M by the end of Q1.
DiDi Rider: Affordable rides showed a downward trend in downloads, from 166K to 42K. However, WAUs increased from 125K to 148K, indicating a growing user base that remained active despite fewer new downloads.
