As we review the first quarter of 2021, the food delivery service apps have shown varied performance in terms of downloads and active users. Here’s a snapshot of how five major players fared, courtesy of the data provided by Sensor Tower.
DoorDash - Food Delivery kicked off the quarter with 717K downloads in the last week of December 2020 and saw a slight decrease in downloads over the quarter, ending with 548K downloads in the last week of March 2021. The app's weekly active users started at 15M and peaked at 18.5M in mid-March before settling at around 17.9M.
Uber Eats: Food Delivery began with 446K downloads in the same period and experienced a general decline to 339K by the end of March. Despite the download trend, active users were at their peak of 16.8M in the middle of March after starting the quarter with 14.1M active users.
Grubhub: Food Delivery witnessed a decrease in downloads from 317K to 219K by the quarter's close. However, active users saw a rise from 3.1M to a high of 3.5M in mid-March, before slightly dropping to 3.2M.
Instacart-Get Grocery Delivery showed consistency in downloads, starting at 216K and ending the quarter with 165K. The active users for Instacart were relatively stable, hovering around 1.7M throughout the quarter.
Lastly, DoorDash - Dasher, an app for delivery personnel, had a starting download number of 143K in late December, which surged to 299K by the end of March. The app's active users saw a steady increase from 1.6M to over 2M in the same period.
