The performance of the top 5 travel applications on iOS in the United States during Q2 2021 highlights the robust engagement within this category. Data from Sensor Tower reveals the trends in weekly downloads and active users for Uber - Request a ride, Lyft, Vrbo Vacation Rentals, Hopper: Flights, Hotels & Cars, and Airbnb.
The Uber - Request a ride app saw a consistent increase in weekly downloads, starting at around 261K in early April and peaking at nearly 300K by the end of June. Weekly active users also grew steadily, from approximately 4.6M to almost 6M by the end of the quarter.
Similarly, Lyft experienced a rise in weekly downloads, beginning with about 193K in late March and reaching over 200K by the end of June. Active users followed a similar upward trajectory, moving from around 2.2M to over 3M in the same period.
Vrbo Vacation Rentals showed fluctuations in weekly downloads, starting at around 179K and ending the quarter with approximately 157K. Weekly active users remained relatively stable, hovering around 1.5M throughout the quarter.
Hopper: Flights, Hotels & Cars saw a significant increase in weekly downloads, from about 126K in late March to over 230K by mid-June. Active users also rose notably, from approximately 570K to over 830K by the end of June.
Lastly, Airbnb maintained a steady download rate, beginning with around 138K in late March and peaking at 162K in early June. Weekly active users exhibited growth from nearly 2.8M to over 3.2M by the end of the quarter.
