In the second quarter of 2021, the MMORPG category saw an interesting mix of trends among the top apps in the United States. With data sourced from Sensor Tower, let's delve into the performance of these leading MMORPGs.
Fate of the Empress experienced a steady increase in revenue from around $48K to $110K, while downloads fluctuated with a peak of approximately 38K in mid-June. Weekly active users peaked at around 87K in the third week of June, showing an overall upward trend from approximately 59K at the start of the quarter.
Dragon Raja by Archosaur Games also had a notable quarter with revenue starting at around $371K and ending at $205K. The downloads showed a declining trend with a starting point near 23K and ending the quarter around 20K. Weekly active users peaked in mid-April at approximately 55K but ended the quarter with about 45K, indicating a slight decline.
The newly released Dragonicle: 2024 Fantasy RPG saw its revenue decrease from $139K in its release week to around $61K by the end of June. Downloads showed a sharp decline from 63K in the launch week to just under 5K, and weekly active users followed a similar downtrend from around 37K to 8K.
Albion Online, published by Sandbox Interactive GmbH, showed a promising start after its release in early June, with revenue growing from approximately $10K to $43K. Downloads peaked at around 60K in the third week of June, while weekly active users saw a steady increase, starting at 33K and peaking at around 55K.
Lastly, RuneScape from Jagex had its revenue surge in the latter half of June, jumping from around $7K to $174K, after a week with no revenue recorded in April. Downloads saw a massive spike to approximately 139K in mid-June, coinciding with its official release date. Weekly active users saw a dramatic increase from around 7K to 135K in the same period.
