The third quarter of 2021 saw dynamic shifts in the performance of the top social apps on Android in South Africa. Here's a detailed look at how TikTok, Bigo Live - Live Streaming App, Facebook, Grindr - Gay Dating & Chat, and Likee - Short Video Community performed.
TikTok experienced a remarkable surge in weekly downloads, starting at around 34K in late June and peaking at approximately 150K by late September. Revenue also saw significant growth, with weekly earnings starting at $20K and reaching up to $67K by mid-September. Active users remained strong, fluctuating around 2.5M throughout the quarter.
Bigo Live - Live Streaming App had a relatively stable performance. Weekly downloads hovered around 3K to 4K, while revenue saw a gradual increase from $5.2K in early July to nearly $9.9K by the end of September. Active users remained consistent, averaging around 26K.
Facebook maintained a steady presence with weekly downloads ranging from 31K to 46K. Revenue showed minor fluctuations, averaging around $4K to $5K per week. The app's active user base was robust, consistently around 10.9M, peaking at 11M in the last week of September.
Grindr - Gay Dating & Chat had a steady weekly download rate of around 800. Revenue showed a gradual increase, starting at $2K and reaching nearly $2.8K by early September. Active users saw minor fluctuations, averaging around 59K throughout the quarter.
Likee - Short Video Community showed a stable trend in weekly downloads, ranging from 5K to 8K. Revenue remained relatively stable, averaging around $1.3K to $1.7K per week. Active users saw slight fluctuations, averaging around 500K.
