During the fourth quarter of 2021, the top 5 news and magazines applications on the Android platform in Ghana showed varied performance trends. Here’s a closer look at the weekly downloads, revenue, and active user metrics for each app, based on data from Sensor Tower.
Opera News: breaking & local saw a fluctuating trend in weekly downloads, starting at 30.3K at the end of September and ending the year with 22.4K downloads. The app's weekly active users also showed some volatility, peaking at 757.2K in late September and dipping to 627.8K by mid-December before rising again to 732.1K in the final week of the year.
Opera News Lite - Less Data experienced a similar pattern with its downloads, which ranged from 6.7K to 16K throughout the quarter. Active users for the lite version started at 243.4K in late September and decreased to 182.9K by late December, with a slight uptick to 209.7K in the final week.
Scooper News: News Around You had a more consistent decline in downloads, beginning at 6.4K in late September and dropping to 2.2K by mid-December. Its active users followed a similar downward trend, from 12.6K to 8.3K over the quarter, with a slight recovery to 8.5K in the last week.
Twitter Lite maintained relatively stable download numbers throughout the quarter, fluctuating between 1.1K and 2.1K. The app's active users remained steady around the 3.4K mark, with minor variations, ending the year at 3.3K.
Finally, Quora: the knowledge platform had weekly downloads ranging from 1.1K to 1.9K. The active users hovered around the 39K to 40K range throughout the quarter, indicating stable engagement from its user base.
