In the first quarter of 2022, the top five communication apps in Spain—Telegram, WhatsApp Messenger, Messenger, Snapchat, and Discord - Talk, Play, Hang Out—exhibited diverse trends in weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Below is a detailed look at their performance.
Telegram saw a steady increase in weekly downloads, starting from 67.9K at the end of December and peaking at 132.7K in mid-March. The app maintained a consistent number of weekly active users, with a slight increase from 4.1M at the beginning of January to 4.5M by mid-March.
WhatsApp Messenger experienced a notable fluctuation in weekly downloads. Starting at 111.8K in late December, the downloads peaked at 163.6K in the first week of January and saw another peak of 115.2K at the end of March. The app consistently held a high number of weekly active users, ranging from 29.1M to 29.6M throughout the quarter.
Messenger by Meta Platforms, Inc. displayed a modest increase in weekly revenue, reaching $217 by the end of March. Weekly downloads fluctuated, starting at 48.6K in late December and peaking at 53.8K in early January. Active users showed a slight decline from 14.2M at the end of December to 13.6M by the end of March.
Snapchat saw a relatively stable number of weekly downloads, with minor fluctuations around the 33K to 36K range. The app's active users exhibited a minor decline, starting at 5.7M at the end of December and slightly decreasing to 5.3M by the end of March.
Discord - Talk, Play, Hang Out showed a steady pattern in weekly revenue, hovering around $6K to $8.7K throughout the quarter. Weekly downloads also remained consistent, ranging around 28K to 45.5K. The app's active users slightly decreased from 1.6M at the beginning of January to 1.5M by the end of March.
