In the first quarter of 2022, the top five navigation and maps applications in New Zealand showed varied performance metrics across downloads, active users, and revenue. Below, we break down the performance of each app based on data from Sensor Tower.
Google Maps Go started the quarter with approximately 6.8K downloads in the last week of December, gradually decreasing to around 4.7K by the end of March. Weekly active users for the app fluctuated, beginning at roughly 414K and ending the quarter at about 385K.
Google Earth experienced a decline in weekly downloads from 3.5K in late December to approximately 2.5K by the end of March. Weekly active users also saw a slight decrease, starting at around 11.4K and ending the quarter at roughly 9.7K.
CamperMate: Au & NZ Road Trip had a noticeable drop in downloads, from 3.4K in the last week of December to about 750 by the end of March. Similarly, weekly active users decreased from around 3K to approximately 1.2K during the same period.
GPS, Maps, Voice Navigation showed a varied performance in terms of revenue, starting the quarter with around $66 and fluctuating to end at about $43. Downloads for the app started at 1.3K and ended at roughly 740. Active users saw a decrease from approximately 9.3K to about 7.4K by the end of March.
Waze Navigation & Live Traffic had a consistent download trend, beginning with around 1K in late December and slightly decreasing to about 639 by the end of the quarter. Active users for Waze started at approximately 17.9K and ended at around 16.1K.
