The second quarter of 2022 saw interesting trends among the top travel apps on the iOS platform in the United States. Here’s a closer look at the performance of the top 5 travel apps based on data from Sensor Tower.
Uber - Request a ride experienced a fluctuating yet overall stable download pattern. Weekly downloads in early April were around 299K, dipping to approximately 223K by late April, and then stabilizing near 239K by the end of June. The app's weekly active users saw a peak of 7.4M in mid-May, before declining to around 6.6M by the end of June.
Vrbo Vacation Rentals showed a varied download trend, starting the quarter with 253K downloads and experiencing a low of 154K in late May, before recovering to 212K by the end of June. Active user numbers grew steadily, peaking at approximately 2.3M in mid-May and maintaining near this level through the end of June.
Upside: Cash Back - Gas & Food saw significant growth in weekly downloads, starting at 115K in late March and reaching a peak of around 316K in early June. Weekly active users also increased, starting at 1.1M and peaking at approximately 1.8M by the end of the quarter.
Airbnb maintained a relatively stable download rate, with weekly downloads hovering around 166K to 188K throughout the quarter. Active users showed a steady increase from approximately 3M in late March to around 3.4M by the end of June.
Finally, Lyft displayed a fluctuating download pattern, starting at 202K in late March, dipping to 144K in early May, and ending the quarter at roughly 163K. Active users peaked at around 3.4M in mid-May before declining to approximately 3.1M by the end of June.
