The second quarter of 2022 saw significant activity in the photo and video app category in Nigeria. Data from Sensor Tower reveals interesting trends for the top 5 apps, including Snapchat, YouTube: Watch, Listen, Stream, Instagram, CapCut - Video Editor, and VLC media player.
Snapchat showed a stable performance in weekly downloads, with numbers fluctuating between 93K and 126K. Weekly revenue saw a peak of approximately $109 in late March but generally trended downward, ending the quarter around $43. Active users increased steadily from 3.7M to over 4.1M by the end of June.
YouTube: Watch, Listen, Stream experienced varying weekly downloads, peaking at 64K in mid-April and stabilizing around 40K by the end of June. Revenue showed some fluctuations, with a significant peak of $11K in late May. Active users maintained a high volume, averaging around 48M throughout the quarter.
Instagram had a notable increase in weekly downloads, starting at 114K and rising to over 370K by late June. Revenue also showed an upward trend, reaching $310 in early June. Active users fluctuated but generally increased from 6.4M to 6.8M over the quarter.
CapCut - Video Editor saw a dramatic rise in downloads, peaking at 107K in early May before settling around 41K by the end of June. Active users showed steady growth, increasing from 44K to 168K.
VLC media player maintained consistent weekly downloads, ranging from 26K to 33K. Active users also showed a steady pattern, with a slight increase from 847K to 914K over the quarter.
