In the third quarter of 2022, the top 5 music and podcasts apps on Android in New Zealand showed varied performance in terms of downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s a detailed look at each app's performance based on Sensor Tower data.
Spotify: Music and Podcasts consistently maintained its position with steady weekly downloads, starting at around 2.3K and peaking at 2.7K by the end of August. Active users also saw a gradual increase, rising from approximately 736K to 766K over the quarter.
Shazam: Find Music & Concerts experienced modest growth in downloads, fluctuating between 1K and 1.2K weekly. Active users rose from 23.8K to 26.4K, showing increased engagement throughout the period.
rova – radio, music, podcasts saw a significant spike in downloads towards the end of the quarter, reaching 3.5K in the last week of September. Active users mirrored this trend, increasing from 7.1K to nearly 10K.
iHeart: Music, Radio, Podcasts had consistent download numbers, ranging from 515 to 911 weekly. Active users showed a slight upward trend, growing from 4.3K to 4.6K. The app also generated modest weekly revenue, peaking at $12.
SoundCloud: Play Music & Songs performed well in terms of revenue, reaching up to $1.1K in mid-September. Weekly downloads were stable, mostly staying between 650 and 770. Active users remained consistent, hovering around 11K throughout the quarter.
