In the fourth quarter of 2022, the top social networking applications in the United States showcased varying trends in downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s a closer look at the performance of BeReal: Photos & Friends Daily, WhatsApp Messenger, Facebook, Telegram Messenger, and Messenger.
BeReal: Photos & Friends Daily saw significant fluctuations in weekly downloads, starting the quarter strong with over 1M downloads and then tapering off to approximately 260K by the end of December. The app maintained a healthy number of weekly active users, hovering around 11M to 12M throughout the quarter.
WhatsApp Messenger experienced a relatively stable download rate, with numbers ranging from 550K to 886K weekly. Active users remained steady, fluctuating slightly but staying around the 97M mark.
Facebook demonstrated consistent performance with weekly downloads varying between 536K and 660K. The app generated substantial weekly revenue, peaking at approximately $944K at the beginning of the quarter, and maintaining around $753K by the end. Active users were robust, remaining above 225M throughout the quarter.
Telegram Messenger saw its weekly downloads fluctuate between 438K and 520K. Weekly revenue showed a positive trend, increasing from $34K to $63K by the end of December. Active users were fairly steady, with minor variations, averaging around 8.8M.
Messenger maintained a stable download rate, with figures ranging from 485K to 582K weekly. The app's weekly revenue peaked at around $35K early in the quarter, tapering off to approximately $27K by the end. Active users remained consistently high, averaging around 120M to 123M.
