In Q1 2023, the performance of the top news and magazine apps on the Android platform in Brazil demonstrated diverse trends in downloads and active users. Here’s a closer look at how the top 5 apps fared:
Opera News: breaking & local had a dynamic quarter with weekly downloads fluctuating between 71K and 94K. The app saw a peak of 94K downloads in the week of February 20. Weekly active users showed a steady trend, ranging from 399K to 443K, with a notable increase to 454K during mid-January.
Local News - Latest & Smart experienced a significant rise in weekly downloads, peaking at 49K in mid-March. The app's active user base also grew, starting from 171K at the beginning of the quarter and reaching 246K by the end of March.
G1 Portal de Notícias da Globo exhibited varied download numbers, with a high of 47K in the week of February 20. Active users fluctuated throughout the quarter, starting at 839K and ending at approximately 706K.
Breaking News: Local & Alerts saw a decline in weekly downloads, dropping from 36K at the beginning of January to around 8K by the end of March. Despite this, the app maintained a relatively stable number of active users, ranging from 438K to 280K over the quarter.
Twitter Lite had a modest download performance, peaking at just under 10K in early January. Active users remained relatively consistent, fluctuating between 234K and 284K throughout the quarter.
