The first quarter of 2023 witnessed dynamic performances from the top social networking apps in South Africa. Here's a closer look at the trends for WhatsApp Messenger, Facebook, Messenger, Telegram Messenger, and Status Saver for WA Story Save.
WhatsApp Messenger from WhatsApp Inc. showed a substantial increase in weekly downloads, starting from 49K in late December and peaking at 128K by the end of March. The app also saw a minor revenue of $43 in the last week of March. Active users fluctuated slightly throughout the quarter, maintaining a range around 19M.
Facebook by Meta Platforms, Inc. experienced a notable rise in weekly downloads, beginning at 75K and reaching 182K by the end of the quarter. The app's revenue showed minor fluctuations, peaking at around $6K in late January. Active users saw a consistent increase from 18.7M to 19.7M over the quarter.
Messenger, also from Meta Platforms, Inc., had a more modest download performance, with numbers starting at 44K and ending at 35K. Revenue saw minimal activity, with a peak of $102 in early January. Active users remained fairly steady, fluctuating around 10.5M.
Telegram Messenger from Telegram FZ-LLC showed consistent weekly downloads, starting at 25K and peaking at 37K in mid-March. Revenue saw a significant peak of $2K in mid-February. Active users hovered around 1.4M, with minor fluctuations throughout the quarter.
Status Saver for WA Story Save by Edgard Chammas also saw varied performance. Downloads started at 13K and peaked at 26K in early February. Revenue remained relatively stable, with a peak of $1.7K in late January. Active users saw a steady increase, reaching up to 145K by mid-March.
