In the first quarter of 2023, the top five travel apps in the United States—Uber - Request a ride, Hopper: Flights, Hotels & Cars, Vrbo Vacation Rentals, Expedia: Hotels, Flights & Car, and Airbnb—demonstrated varied patterns in downloads and active users, according to Sensor Tower data.
Uber - Request a ride saw a relatively steady number of weekly downloads, starting at around 388K in late December and settling at approximately 331K by the end of March. Active users fluctuated slightly, with a high of about 11.8M in mid-March and a low of 10.3M in early January.
Hopper: Flights, Hotels & Cars experienced growth in weekly downloads, peaking at around 352K in late February. The app maintained over 1.4M active users throughout the quarter, with a notable high of 1.6M in late February.
Vrbo Vacation Rentals had varied download numbers, starting the quarter at approximately 325K and ending at around 221K. Active users showed a slight increase over the quarter, reaching a high of about 2.9M in late March.
Expedia: Hotels, Flights & Car maintained a consistent download rate, with weekly downloads ranging between 201K and 251K. Active users remained steady, hovering around 2.1M throughout the quarter.
Airbnb showed a consistent trend in downloads, starting at approximately 202K in late December and reaching around 203K by the end of March. Active users fluctuated, peaking at about 4.3M in late February and settling around 4.1M by the end of March.
