As the year 2023 drew to a close, the U.S. Android market for air travel applications showed varying trends in user engagement and downloads, as reported by Sensor Tower. Here's a look at how the top 5 air travel apps performed in the fourth quarter.
American Airlines experienced a fluctuation in downloads, starting the quarter with approximately 48K downloads and peaking at around 54K in mid-October, before dropping to nearly 40K by the end of December. Weekly active users followed a similar trend, beginning at 265K and reaching a high of 283K in mid-October, then declining to around 245K by the quarter's end.
For United Airlines, downloads in Q4 started at about 45K and saw a peak at roughly 48K in early October. The downloads then decreased, ending the quarter at around 36K. The weekly active users showcased an initial drop from 173K to 166K, followed by a rise to 192K in late November, and concluded the quarter with 184K active users.
The Fly Delta app downloads began at approximately 41K, peaked at 42K in early October, and ended the quarter at around 32K. Its weekly active users ranged from 269K at the start of the quarter to a high of 311K in mid-December, before closing the quarter at about 283K.
The trajectory for Southwest Airlines was slightly different, with downloads peaking at 42K in mid-October and then declining to nearly 32K by December's end. The app's weekly active users saw a significant rise from 175K at the beginning of the quarter to a peak of 263K in mid-October, followed by a decrease to 224K active users by the quarter's final week.
Lastly, Spirit Airlines showed a mixed pattern in downloads, beginning at 26K, dipping to 19K in mid-October, and then climbing back to around 22K by the end of December. The app's weekly active users also saw volatility, starting at 59K, dipping to 50K, and then slightly recovering to approximately 50K in the last week of the quarter.
