In Q4 2023, South Africa's top carpooling and ridesharing apps experienced diverse trends in downloads and active users. This analysis draws on data from Sensor Tower, offering insights into the performance of Bolt: Request a Ride, Uber - Request a ride, inDrive. Save on city rides, Uber - Driver: Drive & Deliver, and Yango: taxi, food, delivery.
Bolt: Request a Ride experienced a decline in weekly downloads, starting at 87.4K in late September and dropping to 41.9K by the end of December. Active users fluctuated, peaking at 676.6K in mid-December before falling to 552.7K in the last week of the quarter.
Uber - Request a ride showed consistent growth in weekly downloads, beginning at 27.4K and reaching 32.3K by mid-December, with a slight dip to 28.5K at the end of the month. Active user numbers saw a gradual decline from 535.4K to 412.6K throughout the quarter.
inDrive. Save on city rides had a varied performance in weekly downloads, starting at 23.4K and fluctuating before ending at 21.2K. Active users remained relatively stable, hovering around 240K to 268K, with minor fluctuations observed.
Uber - Driver: Drive & Deliver saw a modest trend in downloads, starting at 5.5K and ending at 4.8K. Active users remained fairly steady, beginning at 41.7K and slightly increasing to 44.6K by the end of December.
Yango: taxi, food, delivery demonstrated a notable increase in weekly downloads, starting at 773 and finishing at 2.2K. Active users also grew significantly, from 2.8K at the end of September to 4.6K by the end of December. Weekly revenue, although minimal, showed some activity with a peak of $73 in mid-December.
