As the year 2023 came to a close, the fast food and fast casual restaurant app sector experienced noticeable trends in user engagement across the United States. Data from Sensor Tower provides a comprehensive look at how these apps performed in terms of downloads and weekly active users.
McDonald's saw fluctuating downloads throughout Q4, starting with 516K in the last week of September and dipping to 381K by the year's end. Despite the download trends, weekly active users remained robust, peaking at 11.3M in late October and ending the quarter with a solid 9.8M users.
Domino's Pizza USA enjoyed a rise in downloads, beginning with 179K and reaching a high of 266K in late October before settling at 261K in the final week of December. The app's weekly active users showed consistent growth, starting at around 3M and reaching upwards of 3.3M by the end of the quarter.
Starbucks experienced a moderate fluctuation in downloads, with an initial 268K that saw a low of 186K in November, but rebounded to 270K by December 25th. Weekly active users for Starbucks began at 5.3M, dipped to 4.8M, and then rose back up to 5.1M users.
Taco Bell Fast Food & Delivery saw its downloads peak at 207K mid-quarter, with a slight decline towards the end at 156K. The app's weekly active users reached a high of 1.2M in late October, with a small decline to 1.16M by the year's end.
Lastly, Chick-fil-A downloads varied, starting at 183K and dipping to 130K in November, then slightly increasing to 175K by the close of the quarter. The app's active users showed stability, starting and ending the quarter with around 1.7M to 1.8M active users.
