As the year 2023 came to a close, the social networking landscape in Latin America presented interesting movements in user engagement and app downloads. Sensor Tower's data offers a comprehensive glimpse into the performance of the top five social networking applications across the region.
Grindr - Gay Dating & Chat showed an upward trend in revenue, ending the quarter with $195K, a slight increase from the $180K at the beginning of the quarter. Downloads saw a general decline from 74K to 76K, while weekly active users experienced fluctuations, ultimately rising from 2.3M to 2.31M by the quarter's end.
Facebook, the veteran social media platform, observed a dip in revenue from $92K to $84K, with downloads remaining robust, hovering around the 2-2.5M mark. Weekly active users remained relatively stable, ending the quarter with a strong 345M active users.
For Life360: Find Friends & Family, revenues varied across the quarter, starting at $49K and dipping to around $45K by the end of December. Downloads saw an upward trend, peaking at 286K in the last week, and weekly active users grew from 6.3M to 7.05M, indicating increasing reliance on the app for location sharing and family coordination.
Discord - Chat, Talk & Hangout experienced a mixed revenue trend, beginning at $70K and ending at $80K. Downloads had a slight uptick towards the end of the quarter, reaching 349K. Weekly active users saw a rise overall, starting at 12.16M and climbing to 12.5M, reflecting a consistent growth in community engagement on the platform.
Lastly, BIGO LIVE-Live Stream, Go Live had a revenue fluctuation, with a low of $37K in late October and a rebound to $50K by the year's end. Downloads started strong at 237K but saw a decline towards the middle of the quarter before recovering to 242K. The app's weekly active users increased from 2.81M to 3.01M, highlighting its popularity as a live streaming service.
