In the final quarter of 2023, Brazil's social networking scene saw varied performance among the top applications. This analysis, based on data from Sensor Tower, provides a snapshot of the trends observed in the market.
WhatsApp Messenger, despite not generating revenue, maintained a strong presence in Brazil with downloads peaking at nearly 893K in the last week of December. The app's weekly active users showed a slight decline over the quarter, closing at roughly 112M users.
Meta's flagship app, Facebook, saw its revenue fluctuate, finishing the quarter with around $18K. Downloads remained robust, with over 494K in the final week, and weekly active users ended the year at approximately 103M, indicating a slight dip over the quarter.
The newer entrant, Threads, an Instagram app, showed an impressive download spike, soaring to over 1M in early December before settling to 620K by the quarter's end. Active users reached a high of 5.3M mid-quarter but tapered to about 4.3M by December 25th.
Telegram Messenger maintained steady revenue, ending the quarter with over $26K. The app's download numbers saw a decrease to just under 380K, and active users followed a slight downward trend, concluding at over 16M.
Lastly, Messenger, another app from Meta, showed modest revenue figures, peaking at $240 in early December. The app's downloads dipped to around 198K by the end of the quarter, while active users saw a gradual decrease to over 24M.
