Throughout the first quarter of 2024, the top 5 communication apps on Android in Kenya demonstrated diverse performance trends in terms of downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s a detailed look at how each app fared:
PingMe - Second Phone Number saw a significant increase in weekly revenue, starting from approximately $470 in early January and peaking at around $1.7K in mid-March. Downloads also spiked, particularly in March, with a notable jump to 2.9K in the week of March 11. Active users followed a similar trend, rising sharply to over 2K in mid-March before settling at around 800 by the end of the quarter.
Truecaller: AI Call Blocker experienced a steady climb in weekly revenue, starting at around $460 and reaching approximately $870 by the end of March. Weekly downloads showed a robust upward trend, peaking at over 55K in the last week of March. Active users remained consistently high, fluctuating around the 4M mark throughout the quarter.
Numero eSIM: Virtual Number exhibited a gradual increase in revenue, starting at $300 and ending the quarter at $720. Downloads remained relatively stable, with minor fluctuations, and active users hovered around 6K to 7K throughout the quarter, indicating steady engagement.
Vyke: Second Phone/2nd Line showed moderate growth in revenue, increasing from $200 to approximately $480 by the end of March. Downloads and active users remained relatively stable, with downloads peaking at 286 in late January and active users consistently around 1.4K.
Telegram demonstrated a strong performance, with weekly revenue climbing from $200 to nearly $400 by the end of the quarter. Downloads surged significantly, reaching over 126K in the final week of March. Active users also saw a notable increase, peaking at over 2M in mid-March.
