In Q1 2024, Egypt's carpooling and ridesharing market saw notable trends across the top five applications: inDrive. Save on city rides, DiDi Rider: Affordable rides, Uber - Request a ride, DiDi Driver: Drive & Earn Cash, and Careem – rides, food & more. Here’s a breakdown of their performance based on data from Sensor Tower.
inDrive. Save on city rides showed a consistent increase in weekly downloads, starting from approximately 76.6K in early January and peaking at around 111.6K in mid-February. The app's active user base also grew, reaching its highest point of about 584.6K in early March, up from 427.5K at the beginning of the quarter.
DiDi Rider: Affordable rides experienced fluctuating download numbers, with an initial high of 66K in the first week of January, dropping to around 46.1K by mid-March, before slightly recovering to approximately 47.7K by the end of the quarter. Active users for the app saw an overall upward trend, peaking at 201.2K in early March.
Uber - Request a ride maintained a steady download rate, starting at around 41.4K in January and fluctuating slightly to end at approximately 37.7K in the last week of March. Active users for Uber increased significantly, reaching a peak of 1.06M in early March from 854.8K at the start of the quarter.
DiDi Driver: Drive & Earn Cash saw a gradual decline in weekly downloads, starting at 19.3K in January and decreasing to about 12.1K by the end of March. Active users showed a slight downward trend, from 32.3K in early January to approximately 27K by the end of the quarter.
Careem – rides, food & more had a mixed performance in downloads, starting at 10.3K in January and peaking at 17.6K in mid-March. However, active users saw a decline towards the end of the quarter, from 138.4K in early January to about 138.2K by the end of March.
