In the first quarter of 2024, the top 5 food delivery services in South Africa showcased varied performance trends on a unified platform. Here’s a closer look at the weekly downloads and active user statistics for each app.
Mr D - Groceries & Takeaway experienced significant fluctuations in downloads throughout the quarter. Starting with 29.2K downloads in the first week of January, the app saw a dip mid-month but recovered, peaking at 37.6K downloads in the week of March 18. Weekly active users remained relatively stable, starting at 320K and fluctuating modestly, ending the quarter at 318K.
Uber Eats: Food Delivery also showed a notable increase in downloads, starting at 19.2K in early January and climbing to 31.8K by mid-March. The number of active users remained steady, fluctuating slightly between 313K and 320K throughout the quarter.
Yassir Express had a unique download trend, with a significant spike to 12.9K downloads in mid-February, followed by a sharp decline to around 500 downloads per week towards the end of March. Active users mirrored this pattern, peaking at 50.9K in late January before stabilizing at around 35.7K by the end of the quarter.
OneCart: Shopping On Demand maintained a relatively low but consistent download rate, starting at 4.5K in the first week of January and ending at 2.3K in the final week of March. Unfortunately, data for active users was not available for this app.
Astron Energy showed steady download figures, starting at 2.3K in early January and peaking at 3.8K in mid-March. Similar to OneCart, active user data was not available for this app.
