In the first quarter of 2024, the performance of the top five news applications in the United States showed diverse trends in weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s a closer look at how each app fared:
The New York Times experienced fluctuations in weekly revenue, peaking at around $1.1M in late January. Downloads were relatively stable, with a slight increase to 37.9K in mid-March. Weekly active users hovered between 1.5M and 1.6M throughout the quarter.
X saw a notable spike in downloads, reaching 701.4K in early February. Revenue trends were also positive, peaking at approximately $1M in early March. Active users remained consistently high, averaging around 41M to 42M weekly.
The Wall Street Journal. maintained steady revenue growth, with a high of $773.8K in late February. Downloads were modest, ranging from 10.4K to 18K. Active users saw a peak of 526.4K in mid-March.
Washington Post had a consistent revenue stream, peaking at $200K in mid-March. Downloads were stable, fluctuating between 6.6K and 10.5K. Active users remained around 300K to 330K throughout the quarter.
Citizen: Local Safety Alerts showed strong download numbers, peaking at 73.3K in mid-March. Revenue trends were stable, reaching up to $166.7K in early March. Active users fluctuated between 665.5K and 871K, with a peak in late March.
